On the 25th of July, I hope many of you will be at the Rugby club enjoying yourselves, enjoying some summer sunshine, a BBQ and getting excited about the upcoming season. Sadly, I won’t be able to attend as I’ll be trying to complete my first Ironman distance triathlon in Nottingham.
Anyone who knows someone that’s completed one of these events will have no doubt had it repeated a number of times that this consists of a 2.4-mile swim, followed by 112-mile bike ride and then a 26.2-mile run. Ironmen are not often known for their reticence in talking about their achievements!
I should admit that I’m doing this for fun, I’m not entirely sure yet where the fun will be but am pretty sure it’ll only come after I’ve finished – yes I’m aware there are other shortcuts to ‘fun’ and probably a hell of a lot cheaper but there you go :D
In order that someone gets some benefit from my love/hate relationship with endurance sport I’ve decided to try and raise some money on behalf of Cancer Research and by wrapping the big one up with two half-distance Ironman events. The first of these is this weekend on the 20th June in Nottingham and the last is on the 12th of September in Wiltshire. I’ve paid for all my entrance fees etc so all donations go to Cancer Research.
Everyone has been touched in some way by this terrible disease, thankfully there are many good stories to tell thanks to medicinal science but not enough to counter the bad. Charities that support this research need constant funding to continue the fight and this is a way we can help a bit.
If you can spare a bit please make a donation :)
